David Curchod, born in 1971, graduated in visual arts at ECAL in 1997. After graduating, he moved to Germany to study under Arwed D.Gorella at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig. He returned to Lausanne in 1999 where he currently lives and works as an artist. Since 2004, he also teaches at ERACOM in Lausanne.
He discovered the work of cutting by accident during a particularly harsh winter. His oil paintings didn't dry in his studio so he decided to use paper and gouache. What could only be an alternative to his technique of oil painting is prolonged and he takes all the possibilities. Across many layers of finely chiselled paper are compositions playing with a 3D effect.
